Trust in God

Dear fellow teachers and students,

Greetings!

The vision statement of Pentecostal Lam Hon Kwong School is ‘We strive to create an enjoyable learning and teaching environment in which students can be equipped to meet the challenges of the 21st Century’.  Looking at the vision statement, we cannot help but admire the wisdom of the sages, as the challenges mentioned in the statement coincide with the current social situation. In retrospect, Hong Kong society has encountered a series of challenges in the past few months. Internally, social events and the local situation of COVID-19 have jolted us. Externally, the Sino-US trade war, the global pandemic, and the economic recession have severely hit Hong Kong's economy and ignited many governance crises.

The challenges mentioned above have brought changes to all students. For instance, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, classes in schools have been suspended for more than four months and students have turned to online learning. This has drastically changed the mode of learning. However, the primary concern is not the change in medium, but whether students still have the attitude necessary to equip themselves for learning. A learner who pursues unceasing growth and progress often asks himself the following three questions:

  1. Where am I now?
  2. Where do I want to go?
  3. How can I get there?

What about you? How do you plan to equip yourself to meet future challenges?

The 35th President of the United States, Mr. John Fitzgerald Kennedy, said in his inaugural address the following famous quote: "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.” Similarly, you should try to ask not what society can do for you; you should ask what you can do for society. Likewise, ask not what PLHKS can do for you; ask what you can do for PLHKS. I believe that students equipping themselves properly during their learning stage is the best way to repay the school, society and even the world.

What can I do for PLHKS? What promises can I make to my students? Thanks to God! Under the great leadership of former principals Mr. Ho Kuen Fai, Mr. Wan Pui To and Mr. Kwan Sze Wai, PLHKS has accomplished a lot in different areas in the past thirty-seven years. As for me, I have served in PLHKS for almost 30 years. In the future, I will try my very best to dedicate more energy and effort to connecting with teachers and students, and to leading PLHKS to face the above-mentioned challenges. My promise to God and all of you is to give my all till the end of time.

Lastly, I would like to use Principal Kwan’s favourite bible verse as a closing – ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me’. (Philippians 4:13)

I still remember an adage of my primary school teacher – ‘If you lean against a wall, it will sooner or later collapse. If you depend on a person, he will eventually get old. If you rely on God, he is ever the most reliable option.’

I wish all of you the Godly wisdom and reliance on our Lord!

Yours sincerely,

Principal Ho Shu Chee
